FAQs

For water-based paints: simply wrap the bristles tightly in plastic wrap or a plastic bag, ensuring no air can reach them.

For oil-based paints: ideally, clean the brush thoroughly using the correct solvent, but for short durations, wrapping the brush and storing it in a cool place can work for a few hours.

The key is to prevent the paint from drying. If you are using a water-based paint, you can wrap the damp brush in a plastic bag. If you have a longer break (more than 24 hours), we always recommend cleaning the brush thoroughly to prevent permanent damage to the bristles.

Gloss paint is notorious for drying quickly. If you are using oil-based gloss, it is best to clean the brush thoroughly in white spirit or a brush cleaner at the end of the day. If you are using a modern water-based gloss, the plastic wrap method will work well for approximately one night.

Oil-based paint will dry and harden the bristles quickly. If you are certain you will be painting again early the next morning, you can wrap the brush very tightly in plastic wrap to exclude all air. However, for anything longer than an overnight break, clean the brush immediately with a brush cleaner to ensure the longevity of your Harris tools.

Rollers are just as susceptible to drying out as brushes. To store a roller overnight, remove it from the frame and wrap the entire sleeve tightly in a plastic bag, squeezing out as much air as possible. You should also place the wrapped roller in a cool area, away from direct sunlight or radiators.
